Emergency services in general
The single emergency call number 112 works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all over Lithuania in all public phone networks. Only dial it in case of a sudden real threat to life, health, safety, environment or property and when emergency service officers need to arrive to provide immediate help. All calls to this number are routed to the appropriate emergency call handling agency. In case of a 112 call from Vilnius City or a part of Vilnius District areas, this call would be answered by the Emergency Response Centre. If you have dialled the number from elsewhere in Lithuania, the local police station would answer your call.
Other emergency telephone numbers, that are free of charge and can be dialled from any fixed or card phone, are::

Insurances
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) gives students access to medically necessary healthcare during temporary stays in most European countries under the same conditions as local residents. It is free of charge and should be carried alongside your regular health insurance documents when completing an internship abroad.
When visiting Lithuania, wither one of these documents should be carried which confirms your entitlement to reimbursement of healthcare services:
- EHIC
- Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC)
- Certificate E106
- Certificate E109
If you have an EHIC, you are entitled to necessary medical care services which are free of charge in health care institutions that belong to the Lithuanian National Health System. You do not need to register at Territorial Patient Funds (TPF), if you have an EHIC.
A person who is not insured in the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland should insure his/her health privately before he/she comes to Lithuania. They will have to pay for all health care services themselves, and then their insurance company will reimburse their expenses.
Important documents
You should photocopy relevant pages of your passport in case of loss or theft and should note the contact number of the relevant embassy/consulate in Vilnius. Loss of credit cards should be reported immediately to the hotline of the appropriate credit card company.
Medical emergencies
In case of an emergency, you can go directly to the hospital which has a contract with TPF. You have to present your EHIC or PRC and an ID card or passport at the reception desk. There is no charge for those eligible under the EU regulations. For scheduled hospital treatment, you will have to consult with a general practitioner or a specialist. There are no charges for ambulance transportation in case of emergency.
