Living together with Swedes

Ten percent of the people in Sweden were born in another country. Sweden has been multi-ethnical for centuries. A great deal of the Swedish language consists of Swedish forms of German, English, French and Dutch words. This is a result of the extensive trading Sweden had with these countries over centuries.

Swedish people love to communicate. They have more telephones, mobile phones and computers per capita then any other country. They also like to read books, newspapers and magazines. Almost every Swedish person reads daily newspapers and the consumption of books is among the highest in the world. You might find the Swedish people very silent in discussions though. This does not mean he or she is speechless and astonished by your arguments, the Swedish people are simply waiting for their turn. Interrupting someone else who is speaking is considered very impolite in Sweden.

When you are visiting somebody's home, always remember to take your shoes of.
