How to use VOCAL

The VOCAL language materials consist of 6 topics: Internship: At work, Travel, Accommodation, Socializing, Emergency and Health. All of the VOCAL topics are available in English (texts and information). Language skills (words, phrases and dialogues with audios) are available in the respective national language as well.

To start using VOCAL, simply choose the country of destination you are interested in by clicking on the relevant flag. Next, choose a topic of interest to you by clicking on the specific box. Make sure your PC is audio enabled. Most topics have the same structure:

  • General and Cultural Information provide helpful insights.
  • DO’s and DON’Ts is where practical tips and advice on the destination concerning the topic are provided.
  • Listen to the Vocabulary and Phrases and familiarise yourself with new vocabulary. Both, the audio and written texts, are provided.
  • The Dialogues provide audio in the foreign language and the transcript in both English and the language of the destination. When you are working on a dialogue you can select the pause button at any time – this helps you take time to listen and also practice your pronunciation of the target language by reading the text aloud. You can also choose to listen to these dialogues with or without the text visible.
  • Links to useful websites are provided to help you explore the topics further.

At any point you can choose to return to the first page by clicking “Home” in the navigation menue.

All work packages are suitable for independent learning. Start studying with the VOCAL materials in advance of your work placement and you can continue studying the materials during your stay abroad and even after.

Work in Progress: The content of this website was created several years ago in different European projects and is being updated and completed constantly. Moreover, we plan to include further countries as well.
