Social Life

Germans are very sociable, like to play sports together, join clubs to pursue their hobbies or meet to eat, talk, and party. Many foreigners might find these kinds of get-togethers somewhat stiff. But the more beer people drink, the more gregarious the party gets. For Germans to dance lively, laugh, and talk, they need a bit of time to open up.

In Germany, going out is not a formal affair. People go out as couples or in groups. Men and women go out together. If a girl goes out with a guy, that does not necessarily mean they are dating.

Germans like to plan. That is also true in terms of their social life. It is common to make arrangements, often two weeks in advance, to meet at a certain place and time. Spontaneous visits or dates are the exception.

Entertainment

Every big city has a so-called city magazine. This is a magazine that is published monthly and distributed free of charge in pubs and cafés. It contains information on all events, from festivals to family swimming days for a particular month.
